Convertible Car Care: Dos and Don’ts

Fabric Soft Top Cleaner

Do

  • Test on an inconspicuous area to ensure fabric is colourfast dyed.
  • Spray mist the soft top with water.
  • Use a clean paint brush to apply.
  • Leave on for 10–20 minutes for general cleaning.
  • Leave on for 40–60 minutes for stubborn dirt and to previous waterproofing treatments.
  • Wear protective gloves.
  • Use as often as required.

Don’t

  • Use a power jet wash to clean a fabric soft top.
  • Use a detergent based cleaner.
  • Apply in direct sunlight.
  • Forget to shake the bottle prior to use.
 

Soft Top Reviver

Do

  • Ensure the soft top is thoroughly cleaned.
  • Ensure you have sufficient Reviver to complete a full coat.
  • Be diligent in removing previous waterproof coatings prior to application of Reviver.
  • Keep a soft damp cloth ready to wipe off any splashes or dribbles on paintwork and glass.
  • Work in a timely fashion to ensure that the edges of the freshly applied Reviver do not dry out too quickly.
  • Work from the centre of the soft top and as quickly as possible progress towards each side, the front and the back of the soft top.
  • Apply to a dry top and allow Reviver to dry completely before applying further product or taking out in the rain.

Don’t

  • Forget to shake the bottle or stir well prior to use.
  • Dilute or mix the Reviver with any other product.
  • Apply the Reviver in direct sunlight, on a warm/hot soft top or on a warm/hot day that will cause the Reviver to dry too quickly.
  • Allow to dry on glass and paintwork.
  • Apply to a soft top that has been coated with a waterproofing agent without removing the proofer first.
  • Apply to vinyl soft tops or cars with modified paintwork.
  • Apply to one half of the soft top first as this may achieve a join line when starting the second half of the soft top!
 

Fabric Soft Top Ultra Proofer

Do

  • Ensure the soft top is thoroughly cleaned.
  • Ensure you have sufficient Ultra Proofer to complete a full coat.
  • Keep a soft damp cloth at hand to wipe off splashes or dribbles on paintwork and glass.
  • Work in a timely fashion to ensure that the edges of the freshly applied Ultra Proofer do not dry out too quickly.
  • Work from the centre of the soft top and as quickly as possible progress towards each side, the front and the back of the soft top.
  • Apply to a dry top and allow Ultra Proofer to dry completely before applying further product or taking out in the rain.
  • Use every at least every 6–12 months.

Don’t

  • Use on vinyl soft tops.
  • Forget to stir (not shake!) the Ultra Proofer prior to use.
  • Dilute or mix the Ultra Proofer with any other product.
  • Apply the Ultra Proofer in direct sunlight, on a warm/hot soft top or a warm/hot day that will cause the Ultra Proofer to dry too quickly.
  • Allow to dry on glass and paintwork.
  • Apply to vinyl soft tops or cars with modified paintwork.
  • Apply water proofing agent prior to using Reviver.
  • Any proofer previously applied must be completely removed first.
 

Plastic Window Polish

Do

  • Apply with a clean soft polishing cloth.
  • Use small quantities of Plastic Window Polish working with circular motions in small areas a little at a time.
  • Allow Plastic Window Polish to dry then with a clean, soft cloth polish off using circular movements.
  • Apply to both interior and exterior of window.

Don’t

  • Forget to shake the bottle thoroughly prior to use.
  • Allow the Plastic Window Polish to come into contact with materials or fabric that surround the window.
